Beverages and Alcohol: Don't Let Liquids Sabotage Your Fat Loss

More people are concerned about their weight and body fat than ever and unfortunately the number of overweight people is still continuing to rise. There are many reasons for this increase in obesity, such as lack of exercise, poor nutritional habits, lack of sleep, and increased stress levels. Changing these or other lifestyle habits can significantly impact your health and physique. This article will focus on the nutritional component; specifically the negative effect that beverages can have on fat and weight gain.

In can be easy to forget that many beverages contain a significant amount of calories. For example a can of soda contains used about 150 calories, so if you have just 3 cans per day or possibly even a singe large soda from a convenience store or fast foodrestaurant, you are adding almost 500 calories to your daily total. Over the course of a week, this can add an extra pound of fat to your body.

Adding a large number of calories to your daily total is bad enough, but when these beverages are consumed at mealtimes, the negative effects on fat storage and weight gain become even greater. After you have consumed enough calories to satisfy your body's energy requirements, any extra calories, calories from beverages, will end up being stored as fat, regardless if they are from fat, calories, carbs or protein.

Plus, if you are drinking beverages contains alcohol, the effects on fat storage are even worse. Alcohol is essentially a toxin and when you drink alcohol, your body how it handles reprioritizes the calories youconsume. Normally, your body will break down some of the proteins, fats, and carbs to use as energy for various physiological functions. Then whatever is left over will generally be converted into fat or stored as glycogen.

When alcohol is consumed with the other calories, your body's first priority becomes to process the alcohol (toxin) and get it out of your body as fast as possible. The problem is the normal process of breaking down the other carbs, fats, and proteins becomes less important and more of these calories end up being stored as fat while the body is processing the alcohol.

This is not to say that having a small glass of wine with your meal will make everything you eat turn to fat. Instead, higher amounts of alcohol consumed with food will cause your body tostore a higher percentage of the calories as fat. Plus, since alcohol has a dehydrating effect, if you don't drink enough water, it will be more difficult to detoxify your body. This is also important, because when it takes longer to process the alcohol, more of the other calories will be stored as fat.

The physiology can become confusing, but simply stated, large meals combined with alcoholic beverages will cause your body to store a lot of unnecessary fat. Of course, you will have to get rid of this newly added fat before making positive progress towards your original fat loss goals, so you have to ask yourself what's more important, losing fat or consuming excess amounts of alcohol or other high calorie beverages?

Meal Replacement Products In Your Weight Loss Program

Meal substitutes or meal replacements, are usually powder mixes, premixed paint liquids, or meal bars which can, as the name implies, be used as a substitute or replacement for a regular meal. Meal substitutes or meal replacements should not completely replace the normal diet. However, meal substitutes can be a very convenient and efficient way to help reduce calories and control dietary intake in any weight loss program.

One of the great benefits of a meal replacement or substitute is the fact that you will generally have a very accurate description of the calories, protein, fiber, vitamins, fats, carbohydrates and other nutrients contained in the product. When you eat a meal, on the other hand, you may have to guess at, or approximate the amounts and qualities of the nutrientsin the food you have eaten.

Another great benefit is usually ease of preparation and storage. This is a good thing for those of us with busy lifestyles. Many meal replacements are canned, and preparation usually consists of opening the can (hint: Most taste better when chilled, so you might have to force yourself to put the can in the fridge for a while). Powders, on the other hand, DO have to be mixed. Some may be mixed with water, some may be mixed with milk or a milk substitute, and some may be mixed with some kind of juice. Many powdered meal substitutes have various flavors, thus providing some variety.

If you are trying to get in some exercise, there is a chance you may be squeezing it in during your lunch break. It is a good idea to provide your body with some qualityprotein within 30 minutes after exercise, and it might be difficult to get a decent lunch in the time left after exercising. A meal replacement can be finished, or even consumed completely at your desk, leaving your lunch time free for whatever you might need to do.

Many times, the options for lunch or other meals when you are away from your home are limited or at least confusing in the context of health and weight loss. A good meal replacement or meal substitute can give you a viable alternative.

Any meal replacement high protein content should include while being low in fat and calories.

Another thing to concerned with would be the fiber content. Many people who are restricting calories in weight loss programs often omit foods which might have a high fiber content.Fiber helps provide a full feeling, and high fiber diets may contribute to reduction of occurrence of certain medical conditions.

Not all meal replacement products are created equal. Most over-the-counter (OTC) products are intended for general consumption, usually with weight loss as a target, and some are actually intended for weight gain. These would usually be last products from companies such as EAS and Weider.

Remember, however, that meal replacements or meal substitutes are helpers in a sensible weight loss program that includes proper and regular nutrition intake coupled with a regular exercise program, and should never BE the weight loss program.

Canning Food for Long Term Food Storage

Long term food storage is very important in urban homesteading today. After a successful season, the homesteader is wise to preserve their harvest. They worked hard and extra planted so as to supply their needs beyond just the summer harvest, and need to be prepared to preserve the fruits of their labor.

There are a few options for food storage, such as dehydration or freezing, but the long term food storage method for today's discussion is canning food. Canning food can be done to store the fruit or vegetable itself, such as peaches or tomatoes, or it can be done for creating staples from recipes like a peach jelly, or tomato paste.

Home canning has been done for ages. The basic principle of canning, for food safety, is to expose the food to a high temperature, thatwill stop decay and bacteria in the food. Sterile, airtight containers, glass jars with generally removable bands, ringed seals and are used to package the food, and then they are exposed to a high temperature, either through pressure canning or using a water bath canner.

While many foods can be safely canned in a water bath, those with a lower acidity are the exception, and should be preserved by using the pressure canning method. Many vegetables like corn, carrots, squash, beans, mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers, and asparagus have a lower acidity and should be pressure canned. Meats should also be pressure canned.

A general rule of thumb, higher acidity foods can be preserved in using water bath canning, and lower acidity foods should be preserved using a pressure canning.Specifically, foods above 4.5 pH may be safely canned in a water bath canner at 212 f. Foods below 4.5 ph need to be processed using a pressure canner at 250 F or higher.

Whether you are using a water bath or pressure canner, a rack is needed to keep the jars off the bottom of the canner. Glass heats more slowly than metal and jars are more liable to crack as a result.

There is great information all over the web and in books that can be helpful resources for long term food storage. Things like pH chart of commonly canned foods, and information about why foods spoil, "botulism, and various methods of preserving food including canning, pressure cooking, freezing, drying, root cellaring, and curing.

Canned Corned Beef

Canned corned beef comes in chunks, they are preserved products packed in cans that can be used for a long period of time. These products are preserved ones that used preservative ingredients. One of these ingredients is the preservative salt because it was known since then that it prevents food spoilage.

People used to enjoy beef in the can due to its convenient form. It can be prepared easily because it is pre cooked.

Prefers to eat Some corned beef in this can right away, most especially for those people who have no enough time to have it cooked. However, this is not a good practice, even though the canned beef has been cooked already before it was placed in a can, you will not know if how long it has been stocked in the can. In fact, you have no idea also on how it wasprocessed and how it has been kept on storage areas.

The problem is that, numerous people are not aware about the damaging effects of corned beef in can. This product is just the same with other canned goods. They all undergone with the same preservation process.

Studies have shown on how metal cans causes harm to health. Metal cans contain Bisphenol-A, it is an industrially produced chemical that is responsible for gene destruction. Bisphenol A is known as BPA, which is used in polycarbonate plastics. This chemical can cause higher risk of infertility, heart disorders, cancers, diabetes, neurologic problems, and allergic problems.

The more you eat canned beef that has not been cooked again after removing it on its can, the more chances that you will be ingesting BPA. Butwhether cooked or not-cooked, as long as you are eating canned beef frequently, you can still ingest BPA. The longer the food has been stocked in the can, the more BPA penetrates to the food.

For safer health practice, it is advisable to eat fresh raw foods than canned corned beef. But, if you want to have an easy to cook beef in the can, or that can be prepared easily, you can have canned beef. Just remember to have limited amount and avoid frequent eating of this product.

Another good thing about canned beef is that, it has many ways of preparation. There are many recipes that suit for canned corned beef.

Jewelry Care and Cleaning Guide: How To Care and Protect Your Jewelry

Celebrating a Special Occasion with Jewelry!

Jewelry Care means being careful, how you store and and clean it!

Food Storage

How to care and protect Jewelry?

If your jewelry has value to you, it is valuable enough for you to want to take care of it. Jewelry Care means being careful you do not lose it as well as being careful how you store and clean it.

When you buy any jewelry, jewelry, from the most expensive fine jewelry to inexpensive costume jewelry, you buy it because it is beautiful. The gleam of the metal and the shine or luster and fire of the gems appeal to your aesthetic sense of beauty, based on what you can afford. The better the jewelry, the longer you want to wear it, perhaps even for the rest of your life, and the longer you want it to have that like newglow, although some metals and finishes attain a warm patina with wear. What you don't want, however, is scratched or gouged settings and dull gems. Accidents can happen, but all too often the jewelry is damaged by carelessness or not taking the few moments necessary to tend to the jewelry.

In most cases, being careful is the only care jewelry needs. Some types of jewelry, nevertheless, need special care because the gems may be soft, absorbent, or fragile.

Keep in mind that the harder the gem and the higher it is on the Mohs scale of hardness, the more durable it generally is. At time, a hard gem with high or distinct cleavage is apt to be fragile and may break or cleave if it is struck at the right angle. Hardness therefore is not synonymous with toughness. A tough gemmay be soft enough to be more easily scratched but it is less apt to break or shatter. These characteristics have pertinence in wearing, cleaning and storing jewelry, and in remodeling.

Metals have similar characteristic. The purer the silver and gold, the more easily it can be damaged. Also, you must consider the combination of metal settings with gems or gems. What may be perfectly good to clean a metal such as sterling silver, may not be the best for the gems. You have to consider the jewelry as a whole, not as simply metal or gems.

These points are tied in with the third point: the care you take with your jewelry to protect it from loss, both when you are wearing it and when you put it away for safekeeping. All the care in cleaning and storing will not matter if youlose the jewelry. The care you should take in this sense involves the precautions you would take to make sure you do not lose something you like and enjoy. That common sense, and it is common sense whether or not the jewelry is insured, and whether or not it is valuable. The precautions you should take with any jewelry that you like and that means anything to you, in fact, are simple common sense.

- Protection of jewelry

First of all, think about what you do when wearing jewelry. Rings are good example of how common sense can prevent loss.

More Rings are probably lost through carelessness than any other type of jewelry, because they are more apt to be taken off when being worn than pins or necklaces, bracelets or even earrings. So, Precaution Number One, if you wear rings, is to wear them at all times, or be careful with them as you are with your money and credit cards.

Men and women, incidentally, tend to regard rings differently.

-Storing and cleaning jewelry

When you take off all jewelry, jewelry and not only rings, what do you do with it? First, you should have a good and safe place for it. Second, that place should keep the jewelry safe not only from loss but also from damage.

The worst place you can put it in a jewelry box is already filled with other jewelry all jumbled together, where it can become scratched or more seriously hurt. The best place you can put jewelry is in individual cases or leather or cloth bags that will protect each piece from being damaged by other pieces of jewelry. If you do not have separateboxes from the jeweler for each piece of jewelry, at least put each piece in an individual case of some kind and do not drop it casually into a jewelry box.

In most cases, a plastic bag is a good substitute for leather or cloth. Plastic, however, should never be used with pearls, opals, and ivory, which need air to retain their beauty. Plastic, nevertheless, does have an advantage for other jewelry in that you can easily see the piece of jewelry that is in the bag. This method, incidentally, is also good for costume jewelry, which can be scratched as easily, if not more so, than precious jewelry.

Cleaning is also important in retaining and restoring the beauty and luster of jewelry with and without gems. Even gold can discolor from soaps and perspiration. Silver can be especially prone to tarnish, although almost all American sterling silver jewelry is coated with rhodium, platinum, an element of to prevent tarnishing. Any other silver that is worn all the time rarely needs polishing either, since wear retards tarnish. It still may need cleaning, though.

In fact, any metal may need cleaning now and then to remove dirt, soil, or soap film, as may gems. There are, in general, four methods of cleaning jewelry. Although all are safe for cleaning precious metal and diamonds, are not interchangeable and safe for all kinds of jewelry. These are the methods most commonly suggested and used, but be sure to read further for the exceptions and for the precautions you should take with specific metals and gems.

-Detergents Bath. Mix a mild detergentand warm water in a small bowl or cup. Immerse the jewelry, brushing the pieces with an eyebrow brush. Rinse the jewelry under warm running water, being sure to put the jewelry into a tea strainer or cheesecloth for safety's sake. Pat dry hair spray and perfume can also affect amber.

Coral. Coral is relatively tough. Be careful with twig coral in both storing and wearing, since the thinner the twigs the more easily the coral can break. Remember, coral is not a mineral and its luster may be spoiled by preparations used to clean other jewelry.

Diamonds. Diamonds should be kept apart from other gems to avoid scratching the other gems. This rule holds true for both storage and cleaning. One expert suggests boiling diamonds for 10 minutes in soap, water, and ammonia to clean them.

Ivory. Wash ivory carefully in soapy water, dry hair spray), dust, dirt, and particularly perspiration can affects pearls. They should be wiped carefully only with a soft clothe after wearing and kept in satin-lined box, never in a plastic bag. Because their softness, cars should be taken not to scratch them. Pearls worn and need to be allowed to breathe. Do not use commercial jewelry cleaner or acid to clean them.

Peridot. Peridot scratches easily and tends to lose its polish. It should bestored and worn carefully but no special cleaning is necessary.

Topaz. Topaz should be kept in the dark, literally. The gems tend to fade or pale in light, and some yellow-brown topazes on display in museums have turned clear after several years. Remember, too, it cleaves easily. It does not require special cleaning methods.

Turquoise. Since turquoise is very porous, it will absorb all sorts of impurities, especially if it is exposed to dirt and grease, such as working in the yard or in washing dishes.

Turquoise tends to change color with age. It may lighten, darken, or streak. According to an old wives ' tale, burying turquoise in dirt restore the color, but the advice does not say for how long or what amount of dirt might be absorbed. You are probably better offlearning to appreciate the change in color.

Never expose turquoise to ammonia, which will spoil the surface by pitting or spotting. Jewelry cleaner and acid will also injure or destroy turquoise.

To sum up, one of the best methods of cleaning jewelry is simply to use mild soap, water and a drop of ammonia, even though ammonia should not be used with certain gems. Commercial jewelry cleaners are also available at fine jewelers, and these are safe, too, for most, but not all, jewelry. Be surer to read the directions on any commercial cleaner carefully and to follow them.
